iPads/iPods in Classroom

The iPad and the iPod are currently being used in so many exciting and innovative ways in classrooms everywhere from afterschool interventions to regular math instruction to writing instruction to increasing reading fluency. Included here are just some of the suggested tools and techniques used by teachers in the sessions I was able to attend on the use of Apple's mobile devices in the classroom. As time goes by I hope to add more links that could facilitate the use of this page as a resource for those getting involved in the mobile classroom.

One helpful paradigm for characterizing the development of a mobiles in the classroom program could be to look at it in stages. Stage one - getting started in app land: Generally teachers focus on the use of apps for practicing skills and closed-ended skill-based kinds of practice. As comfort level and skill level for the teacher and student grow with the devices we move to stage two - content creation: Students begin to use the device to create content, such as, digital story telling and writing projects.

When asked, students preferred getting their own iPod rather than a shared iPad.
