iOS iMovie for Student Digital Storytelling

I have created a number of tutorial/Comparison videos myself using iOS iMovie: External Mic Comparison on iPad Mini 3, The Importance of an External Mic, and A Do it Yourself Steady Cam Rig for iPhone Selfie Videos. My children have made a number of videos as well, for instance, Hands on Science - Hatching Chicks Preview.

iOS iMovie has come a long way since it was first introduced. The huge advantage it has over the desktop version of iMovie is that is mobile and can go with you wherever you are. Of course, the limitations include the relatively small file storage size on most iOS devices compared to Mac laptop or desktop systems, as well as the overall power and scope of the editing features available. That said, it is possible to create some informative, useful, and entertaining videos using iOS iMovie.

Seven years ago when I was teaching a fourth and fifth grade video production class. We would use the MacBooks' FaceTime cameras to capture footage and then edit in the Mac version of iMovie. I believe they were on version 7 or 8 at the time. Now the form factor of iPhones, iPods, and iPads and the increased quality of their cameras make this mobile platform the natural choice for digital storytelling for students in the classroom, at home, or anywhere.
